    2026-09-04The Sourcing Desk

    Every article is built from real, fetched sources. This release changes what the newsroom remembers and what it reads first: the outlets you already publish from, your own site's voice, and a monthly look at your site and your search data.

    New
    • It learns which outlets you trust: every time you publish, the newsroom records which outlets the article cited, per publication and per topic, and reads those first next time.
    • Read my site's voice: one press reads a handful of your site's own longest pages and proposes the voice dials from them, with the numbers behind the proposal. Proposed, never applied - each dial has its own Apply. Search Console-verified domains only.
    • Two monthly background scans for a domain with its newsroom on and Search Console connected: a Quorl re-crawl of your site, and on a plan that includes Research, a research report that never spends your allowance and whose next-up topics the newsroom reads as story candidates.
    • Hyper-local coverage: name up to five places and every topic you cover is searched in each of them first. Local first, national fills the rest.

    2026-07-31The newsroom now takes requests

    A major release. The dashboard at dash.mastheads.app was rebuilt around one idea: you can now hand the newsroom work directly - a topic, a whole list, a reusable structure, or a page you already published - and the same desks that find real sources and check what they write run once and hand the article back. Continuous, hands-off operation remains what Mastheads is, and is being adapted into this version as a mode; the doors below are live today.

    New
    • One field, and it reads what you typed: a line is one article, a second line makes it a list with one article per row - you never pick a mode from a menu.
    • Seven ways in, one newsroom: a topic · a list · Blueprint (build a structure once, cross it with your own values, generate the set) · From a URL (refresh, rewrite, or beat a page you already published) · Head to head · Ranked list · Explainer.
    • Sitemap import: point From a URL at yoursite.com/sitemap.xml and it lists what you publish - narrowed to a path and to pages untouched in the last 3, 6, or 12 months - so the posts going stale become a list you can act on.
    • Nothing is sent unread: every URL you hand over is fetched and shown first - headline, domain, word count, date - and a page that could not be read is named and left out of the run rather than written against.
    • Nothing you typed is thrown away: leaving a writing surface with work on it offers to save the list - including by the browser's own back button - and a saved list survives a cleared cache and a different browser.
    • Upload a list from files: .txt, .csv, .xlsx, .docx, .pdf, .json - several at once, deduplicated.
    • Any language, any country - with a native newsroom register curated for 11 countries, so German quotes, Swedish endings, and reading-level grading come out right rather than translated.
    • Distribute: turn a finished article into a LinkedIn post, an X thread, an email, key takeaways, or FAQ schema - with a refine loop and version history.
    • Activity: one line per run you asked for, filterable by status and by which way in it came from; any run opens in place to show its sources, length, and - when it failed - why.
    • Team seats: invite teammates into one shared newsroom; everyone works on the same domains, articles, and runs.
    • Bring your own API keys: with your full provider set in, your accounts pay for your generations.
    Improved
    • Search (Ctrl/Cmd-K) covers every way in, every page, your articles, and your domains - and with an empty field it offers the doors themselves.
    • Per-publication voice: tone, reading level, point of view, audience, your own banned words, and standing instructions shape every draft.
    • Related articles: up to three internal links to your own earlier published pieces, chosen by topical overlap.
    • Every article still arrives with its record - what was checked, what was fixed, and anything that fell short, written down rather than silently passed.
    • The free trial is 10 articles over 7 days, no card.

    2026-07-24Documentation, one way to assign work, and nothing gets lost

    Covers six working sessions: a full documentation hub, a single flow for commissioning an article, a trending feed that hands you the sources, and a 30-day safety net on everything you delete.

    • A rebuilt API reference with copy-paste examples in cURL, Python, and JavaScript for every endpoint.
    • Six feature guides at mastheads.app/features - topic discovery, voice and bylines, quality gates, images, publishing, and your content API.
    • Search the documentation from any docs page with Ctrl/Cmd-K.
    Improved
    • One simple way to commission an article: Cover a topic. What used to be two separate pages is now a single flow - name a topic, or bring your own brief and links, and a finished, fact-checked article lands in your review queue. Ongoing coverage of a subject stays what your autonomous sections do.
    • Trending now is a moving ticker you can scroll, pause, and filter by edition and section, showing real news stories with the sources behind them rather than bare one-word trends.
    • Source links on trending topics now take you straight to the publisher's article instead of a redirect page.
    • Covering a trending story writes the article from exactly the sources shown - they arrive pre-selected, and you can untick any before sending.
    • Topics you have already covered leave the trending feed automatically.
    • Deleting an edition no longer loses your work: it is archived and fully recoverable for 30 days, with every article and its history kept and your own external CMS untouched. Email support within 30 days to restore it; after that it is permanently erased.
    • Signing in is now Google, GitHub, or a one-time email link - no password to choose or remember.
    • Features and Resources menus in the site navigation, and a Docs column in the footer.
    Fixed
    • Removing a section from an edition no longer lowers your Total Articles count - those articles are still yours and still counted.

    2026-07-23The minimal-input release

    Creating a newsroom is now a few taps, and the dashboard shows you what it is seeing and writing - live.

    New
    • Guided onboarding - answer a few quick questions by tapping, and your first edition is live: it starts finding and writing stories on its own, every draft lands in review, and nothing publishes without you.
    • Trending now - a live feed of the stories your newsroom's scan is finding in your sections, each with a readable summary and the sources behind it. Send any lead to writing with one tap.
    • Living editions - each edition card shows what it covers, today's output, and the headline it is writing right now.
    • Local or national coverage on every assignment - tie a one-off article or an ongoing topic to a place, with one-tap suggestions from your coverage areas and your edition's country.
    Improved
    • Two clear ways to assign work - Manual inject (one article, now) and Cover a topic (keep covering it) - now share the same step-by-step flow.
    • Duplicate protection at the door: we warn before an article is spent on a topic that is already being written, was covered in the last day, or is already running as a covered topic.
    • Clearer language across the dashboard, and honest error handling when an edition cannot be created.

    2026-07-21Public versioning begins

    The baseline platform, now under public version numbers.
