Export and portability
Your articles are yours. Copy one with its links, export it as Markdown or HTML, download your whole account in one archive, or pull articles by code.
Under our terms, the articles Mastheads writes for you are yours outright. You can edit, republish, sell or delete them, with no royalty and no credit back to us. And you can take them out of Mastheads at any time, in more than one way.

One article
From an article's menu:
- Article (keeps links) - copies the article as rich text and plain text at once. Paste it into WordPress, Google Docs or Notion and the headings and every inline link come with it; paste it into a plain text box and you get the clean text.
- Article as Markdown - for static sites, editors and anything that reads Markdown.
- HTML - for pasting into any CMS's code view.
- Print view - a clean page to print or save as PDF.
Everything at once: Download everything
Settings → Account → Download everything builds one archive of your whole account:
- every article, as HTML and as structured JSON
- every article's sources and picture
- your domains, your authors and your Blueprints
It is built when you ask for it. When it is ready you get an email telling you, and the download is a secure link that works for a limited time. Asking again is always free. You can run one export at a time.
On a team, an export holds only the domains you are allowed to see, and only the person who asked for it can open or download it - the owner included.
By code: the content API
On Growth and Pro, the content API returns your articles to your own systems: your domains, your articles page by page, a single article in full with its HTML and metadata, and its picture. Pass a timestamp and it returns only what changed since then, so a nightly sync stays small.
AI assistants such as Claude Code, Cursor or ChatGPT can connect to your account the same way and read your articles - including the sources each one was written from. See the API reference.
Closing your account
Only the account owner can close it. Closing pauses rather than destroys:
- for 30 days the account is read-only - you can still sign in, read every article and export everything
- nothing new can be written or spent
- your connected sites stay connected, and you can reopen in one click
If you would rather delete everything straight away, there is a separate, permanent delete that asks you to confirm by typing your domain.
What you are never locked into
- No export is paid. Download everything as often as you like.
- No attribution is required on anything you publish.
- Your CMS is your own. Mastheads never creates users, sections or tags on your site, so disconnecting leaves nothing behind except the posts and pictures you chose to publish.
