Plans and your article pool
The three plans, what each includes, how your monthly articles and bought articles work, what counts as an article, and how cancelling works.
Every plan runs the same ten editorial desks, with the same research, the same checks and the same record on every article. Plans differ in scale - how many articles, sites and people - and in a few tools for bigger teams.

- Yearly is ten months' price - two months free, on every plan.
- Prices are before tax. Tax is added at checkout where your country charges it, and the total is shown before you pay.
- These are introductory prices. The standard prices are $149, $399 and $899 a month.
What every plan includes
- all ten editorial desks, with Research on by default
- every way to start an article
- your own voice: tone, reading level, audience, banned words and standing instructions
- named bylines and an editor of record on every domain
- Blueprints
- publishing to all seven supported CMS platforms, and export at any time
- the autonomous newsroom
What larger plans add
- Growth adds the content API and AI assistant access - pull your articles into your own systems, or connect Claude Code, Cursor or ChatGPT to your account. See the API reference.
- Pro adds your own AI keys - bring your own OpenAI, Anthropic or Google key. Each key is tested when you add it, so a bad key is caught before it can break a run.

Your articles each month
Your plan gives you a number of articles each billing period, shared across all your sites. Every way of writing draws on it: a single article, a list, a Blueprint run, or the autonomous newsroom.
What counts as an article
- A finished article counts as one - whether it is ready, or held as Needs a look, because either way it was written.
- A run refused before writing costs nothing - for example when no usable sources could be found.
- Publishing costs nothing. Writing is what counts, so an article you never publish still used one.
Smaller paid actions - redrawing a picture, rewriting a passage, a Distribute output - each show their cost and ask you first.
When you need more
Buy extra articles at any time from your billing page:

Bought articles never expire and carry over from month to month. The price is set by the number you buy, and that number is fixed once it is priced.
Limits that keep spending predictable
- Nothing is written past your allowance - a request beyond it is refused before anything is spent.
- Your account writes up to five articles at once; more wait in line.
- A team can start up to 60 articles an hour.
Pay as you go
You do not need a plan. Without one, you can buy articles and use them whenever you like. Pay as you go includes your own voice, named bylines and five site audits of up to 100 pages each billing period. Blueprints, Research and the API need a plan.
Changing plans
Moving to a smaller plan never deletes anything:
- if you have more sites than the new plan allows, the extra sites keep all their articles and stay editable - they just cannot publish
- if you have more team members, nobody is removed - you just cannot invite more
Cancelling
Easy cancellation: cancel any time, monthly or yearly, in one click from your billing portal. You keep full access until the end of the period you already paid for.
Refunds are by request: email billing@mastheads.app and we look at each one individually. If something on our side stops the service for more than 7 days in a row, we make it right, normally with credits for the days affected. The full policy is on the refund page.
Teams
A team shares one plan, one bill and one allowance. The owner decides, for each member:
- which newsrooms (domains) they can see
- whether they may write articles and spend the allowance
- whether they may publish and export
- whether they may manage billing
Personal API keys and your own AI keys stay with the person who created them.
