Find ideas
Nothing in mind? Ideas shows you fresh stories in your field, and one press starts a source-backed article from any of them.
Some days you know exactly what to write. Other days you open the dashboard with nothing in mind. Ideas is for those days: it finds fresh stories in your field and lets you start an article from one with a single press.
On this page
Open Ideas
Open Ideas from the writing surface. A small window asks three things - no text box, because if you knew what to type you would not need ideas:
- Where - the country the stories should come from.
- Language - the language you write in.
- Section - the subject area, picked from a list. Optional: leave it empty for Surprise me, which brings back the country's top stories.
Press the button and Ideas searches the past day's news.
What comes back
Up to eight fresh stories in that section. Each one opens to its own page, so you can read the story before you decide anything. A story covered by several outlets shows once, and stories that do not fit the section you picked are dropped.
Write about this
Found one worth covering? Press Write about this. The story's headline is typed in as your topic, and its page is sent to the desks as the article's priority source. From there it is a normal article request: you see the brief and the plan, change what you like, and press Write. The ten editorial desks then write and check the article as they would any other.
Daily searches
Each press is one search, counted per person per day:
| Plan | Idea searches per day |
|---|---|
| Trial and pay as you go | 5 |
| Starter | 20 |
| Growth | 50 |
| Pro | 100 |
Some searches do not count:
- the same country, language and section again within six hours - you get the stored result
- reopening a past search from Recent
- a search we could not run on our side
A search that ran and found nothing does count. You can run one search at a time.
Ideas are suggestions, not orders
Browsing ideas commits you to nothing. No story is saved anywhere, and no article is written or charged until you press Write on one.
If you want stories found and written for you on a schedule instead, that is the autonomous newsroom. It keeps its own list of Story ideas for each domain, built from the topics you cover.
